Capsule Geology

The Mike showing is on the western extent of the Johnny Flats conductive trend on the north side of Johnny Mountain, approximately 3 kilometres south of the Bronson Airstrip on Iskut River.

Three stratigraphic assemblages have been mapped in the area of the Mike showing: (1) Upper Palaeozoic sediments and volcanics of the Stikine Assemblage, (2) clastic sediments of the Triassic Stuhini Group, and (3) Lower Jurassic sediments and volcanics of the Hazelton Group.

Four plutonic suites intrude the above; (1) Late Triassic calc-alkaline intrusions coeval with Stuhini Group stratigraphy, (2) Jurassic Copper Mtn, (3) Jurassic Texas Creek and (4) Tertiary Coast Plutonic suite. Metallogenically , Texas Creek potassium feldspar megacrystic porphyries are of primary interest as they are spatially associated with a number of gold deposits and showings in the area.

A grade of 13.03 grams per tonne gold over 1.1 metre was obtained from the Mike showing trench from a massive pyrite vein with traces of chlorite, galena and chalcopyrite within a dacitic tuff (Assessment Report 29673). Soils in the area are high in gold, copper, lead and zinc. Nine holes drilled in 1988 and four holes in 1989 intersected pyrite mineralization with anomalous gold and copper in a few holes. Mineralization appears structurally controlled.

In 2012 Drill Hole SG12-30 was drilled to test a modeled conductive plate at the western extent of the Johnny Flats conductive trend, approximately 460 metres east of the original Mike occurrence. Hole SG12-30 intersected 1.68 metres of 1.47 grams per tonne Au and 165.0 grams per tonne Ag within a broader mineralized interval of 8.20 metres of 0.36 gram per tonne Au and 49.1 grams per tonne Ag. This intersection is marked by strong calcite and silica flooding and up to 25 per cent pyrite and 10 per cent sphalerite (Snip Gold Corp News Release September 25, 2012).
